Share and Take Turns

Every time my child plays with others, he won’t share his toys with others. This makes me feel embarrassed. Other parents must think that I have not taught my child well.
According to Dr.Laura Markham of Ahaparenting.com, if we pressure children to share, we teach them the wrong messages, such as:
- Crying loudly will help them get what they want.
- Parents have the right to decide who gets what they want and when they get it.

No one is born knowing how to share or take turns, these are learned. Young children are at a stage where they are learning how to meet their own needs, and they put their feelings first. For them, if something is given to others, it is gone. This is why we can teach our children to take turns through activities.
